9:30 to 10:50 SOA and the System i - Alison Butterill.
There are a lot of misconceptions about Service Oriented Architecture
(SOA). Many think that SOA is just about web services, some think
it is a new thing the software industry giants have created and
are using to sell products. The reality is that SOA is a new way
to look at your business, allowing you to better adapt to the fast
pace of change in business. The technology behind SOA is not new
and is based on mature industry standards. The purpose of this session
is to explain the basic concepts of SOA, covering the business value,
the industry support, and most importantly, how to start with SOA
on the System i.
10:50 to 11:10 Coffee break
11:10 to 12:30 Moving RPG to an SOA Framework - Alison Butteril.
SOA is architecture. It has become an industry standard allowing
business function to be located in the most appropriate place -
distributing as business requirements dictate. It can be implemented
using a variety of languages and a variety of techniques. Learn
how to exploit the strengths of existing applications, while creating
agile applications and positioning your business for the future.
This session will demonstrate a step-by-step approach for taking
existing applications and implement a Services Oriented Architecture
12:30 to 13:30 Lunch
13:30 to 14:50 High availability for decision makers - Steven Finnes.
Steven Finnes has spent several years in IBM spanning research
and development in electron optics, to basic product design including
the first AS/400 processor, memory and I./O processors. As the chief
engineering manager for I/O and storage he and his team brought
the first Raid5 product offering to market in the early 90s. He's
been involved in the iSeries High Availability core leadership team
for 10 years and is currently the System i Business Continuity product
manager.
High Availability for the decision maker works on a process
that will help to guide you in developing a strategy that has broad
support across your business. A high availability solution is by
definition about customer satisfaction. Its about developing requirements
as well as about setting expectations. There are multiple technologies
in the market that address different and overlapping aspects of
the HA equation and there are organizational needs and requirements
that go beyond simple technology matters. A successful solution
implementation is a win for everyone. What we're going to do in
this session is to build a methodical approach that you can emulate
to create your own successful HA strategy and solution deployment
and give you peek into the future of the System i HA strategy. 14:50
to 15:10 Coffee break
