System i modernization - don't re-invent the wheel
Many companies today are looking to move to new systems and
platforms due a perception their 5250 based applications are not
'modern', in this session we will show why that's not the case and
how simple and effective non-invasive modernization can be with
practical examples showing how other companies have done this successfully,
quickly and painlessly.
Nick Hampson has worked with the system i now for over a
decade, initially for a RPG software supplier and for the last 7
years for a looksoftware in the modernization space. Nicks skills
are all based around modernization with key skills being in the
User Experience and Design areas. Nick presents worldwide for looksoftware
on modernization and handles the presales roll for looksoftware
for EMEA and the US.

PHP & MySQL in i5/OS - New Stacks and New Solutions - Deploying
Open Community Solutions in i5/OS
The iAMP stack (i5/OS, Apache, MySQL, PHP) is the i5/OS native
variant of the LAMP stack - it allows for development of web-based
applications integrated with the MySQL open source database. iAMP
is well suited for those customers/environments that wish to leverage
existing open source applications based on PHP and MySQL. LAMP refers
to a set of tools (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) that facilitates
rapid development and deployment of software applications, LAMP
is often defined as the open source web platform. The adoption of
Zend's PHP and MySQL AB's MySQL database engine on i5/OS provides
the framework for deploying open community solutions in a wide range
of areas including Customer Relationship Management, Bulletin Boards,
Wikis, blogs, and others. By deploying, we refer to the ability
to obtain open source applications and implement them in i5/OS without
changing any of the actual source code.
Fabian Michel is an IBM Certified Senior IT Specialist, 14 years
of IBM, spent mostly as Systems Engineer, in the mid-range systems
environment (AS/400, iSeries, System i). His current role is Systems
Architect for the Systems & Technology Group. He was previously
acting as System Matter Expert for System i as a member of the Systems
Sales Implementation of Technology team focusing on new workloads
integration, implementation and education covering topics such as:
