Smarter Planet, ex5, Blade State fo the Art, Security

IBM Forum, Evere March, 25 2010 Agenda

Jacques De Kegel gradutated at KU Leuven as Civil Engineer. In 1983, he joined IBM. For most of his career at IBM, he was account manager within the Sales organisation. Actually, Jacques is a Business Development Executive, within the IBM Benelux Innovation & Technology team, with special focus on Smarter Mobility & Logistics solutions.

Smarter Planet : The world around us is changing day by day. We are actually at a point in history, where a turn around is needed if we want to preserve this world for our children and our children's children. But the good news is that technology - when properly used - can help us to make this turn around. IBM has the capabilities and the know-how to introduce this change. At IBM, we call it "A Smarter Planet". This is much more than an other marketing campaign, it's a real 'leadership agenda' and, when historians will be looking back to this era, they might even consider it as decisive for history, as was James Watt's steam engine, a few centuries ago. Indeed, with the increase of instumentation, combined with the growing interconnectivity, one can build more intelligent applications, allowing us to master a growing complexity. This is what is all about "A Smarter Planet". Several examples will illustrate this trend.

IBM BladeCenter state of the Art will zoom in into the most recent blade technology and aims to illustrate it is OPEN, EASY and GREEN and fits for diverse business needs.

eX5 is the fifth generation of the IBM X-Architecture.
This presentation addresses this architecture and the portfolio of systems that Maximize Memory, Minimize Cost and Simplify Deployment

This presentation focuses on the security issues related to virtualized environments and risks associated to moving systems into the cloud. How realistic is it that our virtual machines get stolen or hypervisors hacked? Do we need to re-think our security or is it old wine in new barrels? Can we still meet compliancy requirements?
